On July 29, the "Seminar on Progress and Industrialization Roadmap for Optical Fiber Integration in Vehicles" was held in Optics Valley. Shen Yue, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of East Lake High-tech Development Zone, attended the event and engaged in discussions with experts and business leaders including Zhang Yongwei, Shi Jianhua, Wang Wenwei, and Chen Haosen.

Currently, the increasing intelligence of automobiles is placing higher demands on in-vehicle communication systems. The trend of "fiber-to-the-copper retreat" and "fiber optics entering cars" is opening up new opportunities for industry development. On July 29, the "Seminar on Progress and Industrialization Roadmap for Fiber Optics in Automotive Applications" was held in Optics Valley. Shen Yue, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of East Lake High-tech Development Zone, attended the event and engaged in discussions with experts and business leaders including Zhang Yongwei, Shi Jianhua, Wang Wenwei, and Chen Haosen.

This exchange meeting was hosted by organizations including the China Electric Vehicle 100 People Association and the Aggregation Intelligence Industry Innovation Center, attracting nearly 100 representatives from leading institutions across China—such as Beijing Institute of Technology, China Unicom, FiberHome Communications, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable, HGTECH, Geely, SAIC, Dongfeng, Xpeng, and Seres—as well as vehicle manufacturers, telecom solution providers, core component suppliers, and investment firms. At the event, participants engaged in lively discussions and shared insights on key topics like the industrialization roadmap for "fiber optics in vehicles" and the development of its ecosystem.


 

Attendees at the meeting agreed that in-vehicle optical communication can support the development of autonomous driving, intelligent cockpits, and multi-modal connectivity technologies, offering vast application prospects. However, they also noted that challenges remain, including inconsistent standards, insufficient automotive-grade testing and validation, and inadequate collaboration across the upstream and downstream segments of the industry chain. These issues underscore the need for greater industry-wide cooperation. As a global hub for the photonics industry, Optics Valley boasts a complete optoelectronics industrial ecosystem and is poised to foster deep integration with the smart automotive sector, thereby driving transformative growth and upgrading within the industry.


 

Guanggu is the birthplace of China's first practical optical fiber, and it has accumulated strong technological expertise and a solid industrial foundation in fields such as optical communication, lasers, and integrated circuits. The region has nurtured leading enterprises like Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable, Huagong Technology, and FiberHome Communications. Today, the optical communication industry in Guanggu boasts a scale of 110 billion yuan, making it the world's largest manufacturing base for optical fibers and cables, as well as a key R&D and production hub for optical modules.


 

Shen Yue welcomed the attending guests and provided an overview of Optics Valley's economic and social development. He stated, "Bringing fiber optics into vehicles is a key trend driving transformative changes in the intelligent and connected automotive technology industry. As a national base for optoelectronic information industries, Optics Valley has identified 'fiber optics in cars' as a crucial direction for the sector's transformation and upgrading. A number of leading enterprises are already actively making strategic investments in this area. We look forward to collaborating closely with partners from all sectors to jointly propel 'fiber optics in cars' from technological breakthroughs toward large-scale industrialization, securing a competitive edge in the future of automotive intelligence and establishing Optics Valley as a global hub for on-board optoelectronics."
